During her life and after her death, Teresa was admired by many for her charitable work. She has been praised and criticized in various respects, such as her views on abortion and contraception, and has been criticized for poor conditions in her homes for the dying.
Teresa received a number of honors, including the Ramon Magsaysay Peace Prize of 1962 and the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. She was canonized on 4 September 2016 and the anniversary of her death (5 September) is her feast day.
